The Under-Sea Citadel of Nektos
A piece I wrote for a writing exercise. The purpose of the exercise was to describe a setting, specifically a location of some kind.
I chose to create a magical underwater kingdom. Unsurprisingly, I added a bit more lore and backstory than the assignment called for, but I was having fun so I have no regrets. Because the writing exercise focused on describing the setting, there isn’t much dialogue, but the piece is written in the voice of a character discovering the city for the first time, as though it was his personal account.
D&D-related Writing
Vanifer & Bastien
This is a scene I wrote for my D&D Campaign, Wyrm War. It was written with a good mix of prose and dialogue.
Thyra (a PC) is fighting for her designated Primordial Armament, “Tempas, the Hammer of Storms”, but the weapon is currently being held by its original bearer, a tiefling named Vanifer. Vanifer, who lived 1,000 years prior, should be long dead, yet she is very much alive and she is putting up quite a fight.
This scene describes a vision that Thyra experiences when she finally touches Tempas for the first time. It explains how Vanifer is alive after so much time, and gives the PCs a glimpse at the relationship between some of their predecessors.
A Thane Has Fallen
Another scene I wrote for my D&D Campaign, Wyrm War. Unlike the Vanifer & Bastien scene, this one is almost entirely dialogue.
After the PCs manage to kill Glacyliam, the White Thane and greatwyrm, the rest of the Chromatic Thanes (and two Gem Thanes) meet to discuss what to do next.
It was a fun glimpse how some of the campaign’s Big Bads interact. I only wish I was better at voices and accents, since this scene required seven parts that I, as DM, had to perform by myself.
The Parade of Downed Dragons
The Parade of Downed Dragons is a huge event that occurred in the Wyrm War campaign.
This document served as notes and a script for me when describing the Parade to the PCs. I read it as an NPC who delivers exposition to the crowd at predetermined stops along the parade route, like a tour guide.
During the Parade, the PCs were on edge, looking out for any signs of the enemy. Between stops, they would perform actions and skill checks while the parade traveled through Waterdeep.
